Nine Inch Nails presents Ghosts I - IV, a brand new 36 track instrumental collection available right now. Almost two hours of new music composed and recorded over an intense ten week period last fall, Ghosts I - IV sprawls Nine Inch Nails across a variety of new terrain.

Trent Reznor explains, "I've been considering and wanting to make this kind of record for years, but by its very nature it wouldn't have made sense until this point. This collection of music is the result of working from a very visual perspective - dressing imagined locations and scenarios with sound and texture; a soundtrack for daydreams. I'm very pleased with the result and the ability to present it directly to you without interference. I hope you enjoy the first four volumes of Ghosts."

This music arrived unexpectedly as the result of an experiment. The rules were as follows: 10 weeks, no clear agenda, no overthinking, everything driven by impulse. Whatever happens during that time gets released as... something.

The team: Atticus Ross, Alan Moulder and myself with some help from Alessandro Cortini, Adrian Belew and Brian Viglione. Rob Sheridan collaborated with Artist in Residence (A+R) to create the accompanying visual and physical aesthetic.

We began improvising and let the music decide the direction. Eyes were closed, hands played instruments and it began. Within a matter of days it became clear we were on to something, and a lot of material began appearing. What we thought could be a five song EP became much more. I invited some friends over to join in and we all enjoyed the process of collaborating on this.

The end result is a wildly varied body of music that we're able to present to the world in ways the confines of a major record label would never have allowed - from a 100% DRM-free, high-quality download, to the most luxurious physical package we've ever created.

More volumes of Ghosts are likely to appear in the future.

Description: An invaluable document of a long-lost era, The Blank Generation "sets the style for the Punk Documentary—raw, sloppily spliced, unsynched footage of bands, with sound recorded by cassette. The effect is total disorientation and CBGBs performances by Talking Heads ("Psycho Killer"), Blondie ("He left Me"), Ramones ("Shock Treatment", "1-2-3-4, Let's Go") Tuff Darts and many of the other New York bands fill up this frantic, crowd-pleasing film.

CBGB, the small Bowery Avenue club that spawned and nurtured American punk and New Wave music in the mid-70s, closed earlier this fall after a three-decade run. Fortunately, New York filmmaker Amos Poe was hanging out at CBGB in its early days and began filming performances by many of the musicians who would become the stars of the late 70s/early 80s as the rest of America embraced punk and New Wave music and style. Taking his silent 16mm footage and separate audio cassette recordings, Poe and co-director Ivan Kral (guitarist for Patti Smith) put together a documentary, "Blank Generation" (1976), that exemplified a punkish attitude toward film structure with handheld zooms, angled compositions, floodlight lighting, extreme close-ups, elliptical editing, flash pans, and a general in-your-face and “up-yours” stance. Sound and image purposely do not synch. In many cases music and image were recorded on separate nights more economical because of the high cost of raw film stock with sound, but also an aesthetic nod to Jean-Luc Godard who had slashed the umbilical cord uniting sound and image. Out of the French New Wave came the New York No Wave. Neither a collection of music videos nor a straightforward documentary, "Blank Generation" captures in embryonic form vital appearances of the Talking Heads, Blondie, the Ramones, Television, and, most belligerently of all, Patti Smith.

In the film the Patti Smith Group performs a rousing version of “Gloria” that makes you want to jump, scream, and run around the room/block/world. With her androgynous looks, thriftshop clothing, snarling voice, biting lyrics, and middle-finger attitude, Patti Smith is obviously well on her way to becoming the intellectual godmother of punk. Television (with Tom Verlaine) performs “Little Johnny Jewel,” complete with an insert of a portable TV being tossed off a building (a forerunner of music videos incorporating performance and dramatic recreations). The Ramones come on with “Shock Treatment” and “1,2,3,4, Let’s Go,” providing a sad moment while realizing 1,2,3 are already gone. Their leather jackets, sunglasses, pageboy haircuts, and plenty of proto-punk attitude helped establish one style for male punks. Looking very art-school, almost preppie, David Byrne and The Talking Heads perform “Psycho Killer” and bring their soul-stirring rhythms into the mix. The outrageous Wayne County with his big hair wig, high heels, and shapely legs in fishnet stockings (obviously influenced by Charles Ludlum’s Theater of the Ridiculous, John Waters’ films with Divine, and the New York Dolls in their gender-bender period of 1973) sings the lovely “Rock ‘n’ Roll Enema” while brandishing a toilet plunger. Not a pretty sight but not meant to be. And then there is Blondie, with the deadly gorgeous Deborah Harry and her perfect cheekbones, artful makeup, and blonde superstar hair. A complete antithesis of Patti Smith, Harry harkens back to the era of the chanteuse and the Hollywood siren of the 30s.

The presence of both artists at CBGB shows that it was a very flexible musical era. Even the title of the film, inspired by the Television song, indicates open possibilities in the mid-70s "The Blank Generation" suggests that in 1975-1976 it was still a [fill in the blank] generation with no definition, self-imposed or media-determined. That was a post-Watergate, post-hippie, post-activist time of new possibilities, all clearly championed and captured in Amos Poe’s film.

Cult legends Tuxedomoon are a welcome exception in today's over-formatted musical world. Born in 1977, in the heady atmosphere of San Francisco’s postpunk golden age, the band soon became a central part of New York's No Wave scene (as documented in the recent "Downtown 81" film, centered around Jean Michel Basquiat and featuring performances by Blondie, James Chance, DNA and Tuxedomoon). "No Tears", their 2nd single (1979), has remained an electro punk club classic to this day. The band went on to sign to The Residents' Ralph Records, and released two seminal albums, "Half Mute" (1980) and "Desire."

Avant-garde jazz musician Sun Ra stars in the movie version of his concept album Space Is the Place. Not following a linear plot line, this experimental film is a bizarre combination of social commentary, blaxploitation, science fiction, and concert performance. The opening scene is set in an intergalactic forest, with Sun Ra introducing his plan to use music as salvation for the black community. Back on Earth, he wears a disguise as Sunny Ray, a piano player in a 1940s Chicago strip club who causes an explosion with his sounds. Switching to a scene in a desert, he plays a card game called "The End of the World," with the Overseer (Ray Johnson), who is dressed in white and drives a white Cadillac. Sun Ra pulls out a spaceship card and the Arkestra play the song "Calling Planet Earth" as their spaceship lands in Oakland, CA. Perpetually dressed in sparkling gold robes and headdresses, he sets out to save the black people from oppression. He visits a community center and sets up the Outer Space Employment Agency, occasionally switching back to the desert to continue his game with the Overseer. For La Beaute, the celebration of the Year 2000, the French government invited Young and Zazeela to create a four-month, large-scale Dream House installation featuring the continuous DVD projection of the 1987 six-hour 24-minute performance of their collaborative masterwork, The Well-Tuned Piano in The Magenta Lights, set in a site-specific light environment created by Zazeela. Shown daily and visited by more than 200,000 people, the installation was headlined by L'Express: "La Monte Young: Le Son du Siecle." From May through October 2001, Kunst im Regenbogenstadl, Polling, presented the German premiere of the DVD Dream House installation, continuing in 2002, 2003 and 2004 with the addition of the European premiere of an electronically generated continuous periodic composite sound waveform environment of The Magic Opening Chord from The Well-Tuned Piano. In March-April 2002, MaerzMusik Festival of the Berliner Festspiele premiered the DVD installation of The Well-Tuned Piano in The Magenta Lights set in Zazeela's light design for the monumental Berlin Staatsbank. Just Dreams released the DVD of The Well-Tuned Piano in The Magenta Lights (JD002) in 2001, described by The Village Voice as "The most important piano work of the late 20th century." Marian Zazeela is one of the first contemporary artists to use light as a medium of expression. Over four decades Zazeela has exhibited a unique iconographic vision in media encompassing painting, calligraphic drawing, graphics, film, light projection, sculpture and environment. Expanding the traditional concepts of painting and sculpture while incorporating elements of both disciplines, she developed her own visual language in the medium of light by combining colored light mixtures with sculptural forms to create seemingly three-dimensional colored shadows in radiant vibrational fields. Light and scale are manipulated in such a way that the colored shadows, in their apparent corporeality, become indistinguishable from the sculptural forms, enveloping the viewer in the continual interplay of reality and illusion. The television production Two Moon July was a multidisciplinary event that featured experimental video, film, visual art, performance and music in a theatrical framework. More than thirty artists participated in the program, which was produced for the Kitchen by Carlota Schoolman and directed by Tom Bowes. This production reflects a moment when art centers were experimenting with new modes of presenting the arts for television. The participating artists read like a "who's who" of 1980's downtown art icons. Short excerpts from video and film works (by artists including Vito Acconci, Dara Birnbaum, Bruce Connor and Bill Viola) are intercut with performances and art installations in the Kitchen's gallery spaces. Laurie Anderson performs Difficult Listening Hour, speaking through the male voice of hher "Soul Doctor" character; Talking Heads' front man David Byrne is featured in the performance piece Report from L.A.; choreographer and dancer Bill T. Jones performs Inspiration to the accompaniment of John and Evan Lurie's music. Art works by '80s art stars Cindy Sherman, Robert Longo and Jonathan Borofsky are integral to the mise en scene, while music by downtown legends Brian Eno, Philip Glass and Arto Lindsay, among others, provides a running soundtrack.

This video is an ensemble piece that contains a collection of experimental performance art pieces by various artists including: LAURIE ANDERSON; DAVID BYRNE (of Talking Heads); PHILIP GLASS; ARTO LINDSAY (founder of legendary New York No Wave band DNA) w/TONY NOGUEIRA; EVAN LURIE; JOHN LURIE; BILL T. JONES; GEORGE LEWIS; and MOLISSA FENLEY (Piece has music by ANTHONY DAVIS). The entire video takes place in The Kitchen, a legendary artist's loft in New York City. All the performance pieces are what would be considered Experimental/Avant-Garde. And this evening at 10 on Channel 31, many of those artists and their work can be glimpsed fleetingly in the one-hour special ''Two Moon July.''

The program, produced for the Kitchen by Carlota Schoolman and directed by Tom Bowes, is really a glossy video brochure that presents tempting little tidbits of work, much of it filmed in the Kitchen's gleaming new headquarters on West 19th Street. Laurie Anderson, who has lately been acting as a sort of official greeter for the avant-garde, leads off the program with one of her surefire bits, ''Difficult Listening Hour,'' in which she introduces an imaginary radio show, intoning her words through a harmonizer that lowers her voice to a sinister robotic baritone. In David Byrne's ''Report From L.A.,'' the leader of Talking Heads dashes around in increasingly frantic circles while reciting the names of movies, some fanciful, others real, that he can hardly wait to see. The piece is an amusing sendup of a certain kind of media-mad New York jitters. Molissa Fenley (accompanied by Anthony Davis's composition, ''Clonetics'') and Bill T. Jones each performs a short, expressive dance piece.

Naturally enough, the work that leaves the strongest impression is that created directly for video. ''And Now This,'' a haunting work of video art created by Kit Fitzgerald and John Sanborn, with music by David Van Tieghem and Peter Gordon, presents a beautiful evocation of the American heartland with eerie views of empty farm buildings seen through windows from striking perspectives. Michel Auder's ''Stories, Myths, Ironies and Songs,'' in which Ned Sublette sings about surviving the cold against scenes of New York City experiencing a full-scale blizzard, makes a moody urban counterpart.

To those looking for deep artistic statements, ''Two Moon July'' will be frustrating because in many instances, only excerpts of works are shown. Nothing lasts longer than three or four minutes. The show is the avant-garde equivalent of a Whitman's Sampler.

Black square on white field, carrying abstraction to its ultimate geometric simplification.

Called a "dead square" and a "void" by the critics, as well as "the greatest by far among the fairground tricks of instant culture." To Malevich, however, this square symbolized a "full void", in that it showed how painting could fulfill itself unaided by any reference to a specific external reality. For him the square represented only Suprematism: "the supremacy of pure feeling" in and of itself. Malevich removes specific subject matter by shifting away from representation and mimesis and towards the purity of mathematical geometry."The square = feeling, the white field = the void beyond this feeling."

Black Square netlabel is about synthesis between image and a sound, music and a photo. And as Malevich's square it does not recognize genre distinctions as in music so in photography, but represents only Suprematism: "the supremacy of pure feeling".

Born in 1977, Ishikawa, Japan, moved to England at the age of 18 years old to study fine art, focusing on sculpture. Since then he has been interested in the production of time based installations using electronics, lights, multiple media. In the MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art he started using video in his work, still influenced by his background in sculpture, his work in audiovisual interestingly seems to capture 2D images from 3D spaces and objects, rather than cinematographic time and sequence. - Entre 1975 et 1977, il joue avec le groupe Alcis (très influencé par des groupes comme Can, Hawkwind, Kraftwerk). En 77, il forme un groupe de musique indienne Dhisma qui marque le départ de ses travaux sur la répétition et les boucles. En 79, il fonde le groupe No Unauthorized avec qui il joue jusqu’en 1997. M.Nomized fonde divers groupes comme The Golozos, Metalic Fuck ou Les Amants D’Hier.

- En 1983, il fonde le label Fraction Studio qui a pour but la promotion, la production et la diffusion des musiques contemporaines, électroniques, ambient, etc. Il fonde également Minimart Production (graphisme, échanges, art postal, etc.). about: There are things that have deeply influenced me; some of these things are located in a novel by J. G. Ballard titled "The Drowned World". The novel is at its core about a process of regression to a primal dimension of existence. In a philosophical sense, I understand this process as stripping a strata accumulated (often useless and misleading) in the evolution of human society, from the musical point of view as outrage, and a consequent simplification of musical structures. The purpose of this process is to achieve an essential dimension, an essential form, a point of departure. "Live" because "Minimal Way" is a recording of a small performance (music + images) last year in a tiny club in my hometown. The main element of the work is the water, the source of life, the amniotic fluid. After almost 1,5 year in making this is my new collection of noises and ambients connected in loose concept called “Immigrant Ghosts”. It’s, again, like previous “Pagans” and “Game of Life” based on my life story. This time is about place we call home, unplanned travels and illusions – When I left my hometown in flames I said “I'll be back in three months”. Now it’s 19 Years since I live somewhere else. Most of all it’s about our place in the world and our relation to reality of it.
Big part in my life and in my heart has my niece Eva - author of album's beautiful cover. She sent me 4 versions of it and I am playing with thought to put at least one more on this page. Eva is award winning animator from Montreal, Canada. Her last animated film "Once Upon A Meny Time" is in direct connection with the concept of this album and so I recommend it to all of you warmly - all other films on her web page too.

Another work in direct connection with this album is "Arrival", picture book by Shaun Tan. Here can you find excerpts from it.

All songs are Made after “Pagans” – from 2009 – 2011. First was "Elegy For Oil Platforms" which is also my first work published on net label Musictrade in VA album Miscued Rat (MT024).
Many Jamendians and Musictrade artists helped me to shape main sound of this work - sound of human speech in different languages. You'll have opportunity , maybe for the first time, to hear some of known Jamendo instrumentalists speaking! For help on this work Gigantic Thank You to all of them.

Recorded by KPFA Radio on the 39th birthday of David Tudor, this historic concert with John Cage thundered through the halls of the sculpture court of the San Francisco Museum of Art before a capacity audience that included the late Darius Milhaud in his wheelchair and other Bay Area arts dignitaries. The volume levels were raucus and the medium of live electronic music never more vibrant. Opening with a work performed on a single cymbal with contact microphones agitated by a wide gamut of objects, and concluding with Variations IV in which loudspeakers outside the performance space in various hallways interacted with speakers next to the audience, this was truly an affair to remember.

Partirei dalle leggere dissonanze di "crash on mind" e citerei la pacifica essenziale bellezza minimale di "mantra" per lodare questo lavoro di una affascinante delicatezza introspettiva. Delicato e pacato ma allo stesso tempo "forte". Una canna di bambù che si muove al vento. La pace consapevole e profonda che si prova in un giardino Zen. La determinazione dell'artista ad essere se stesso. Vera world music.

The music on Corridor is connected to a breadth of minimal and ambient music that I love, and sometimes also to the canons and melodies of children's music. Since I am a pianist, there is often something that sounds like a piano nearby. And the music is generally very quiet. In fact, two of the tracks ("Sleeping monsters lie" and "Zen baby") are more or less lullabies - and those are the ones with the drums. This album is dedicated to the memory of Marc Gaspard. Shamatronic est un hybride né, en mars 2010, de l'alliance improbable du chamanisme avec l'électronique ... C'est une approche artistique plutôt inattendue dont la naissance aurait pu être forcée en laboratoire par des techniciens voulant enfanter un monstre issu de l'union de la primale et chaude irrationalité avec la froideur du composant électronique voué de toute éternité au raisonnement binaire. Une sorte de chimère... Shamatronic a été développé instinctivement, dans le frisson et le rythme, ce concept s'est auto enfanté, imposé de lui même. Le calcul et la compromission n'ont pas trouvé leur place, le souffle de vie, puissant et pulsionnel, a submergé ses créateurs.

'Trip Solombre', is a multi-genre album which features male/female vocals, acoustic arrangements, electronic arrangements as well as differing styles of singing. I classify it as Experimental-Ambient due to the fusion of very disparate musical elements to create a unique work.

This album will never fit into a neat category be it genre or even instrumentation. Synthesizers are used to replicate acoustic instruments as well as "synth" sounds. Acoustic strings(including guitar) and Brass-mainly Bass instruments such as Baritone and Trombone (or at least heavy use of Synth Brass Voice Mode), electric guitar, Primitive Flute and percussion(acoustic and digital).

Vocal styles range from operatic to primitive prayer chant, wailing to spoken, ballad to voice over utterances and mixtures of all of the above( Track #7. 'Squatting Head').

Based on the on the Artist's Identity as Shamatronic, I drew the conclusion that it is a variant of Shaman. The word may mean, Spiritual Leader, Traditional Healer/Medicine Man or type of Mystic(Druid) and upon hearing most of the tracks this belief was reinforced. The music has a Non-Christian or Eastern Spiritual vibe but more related to Magic than Religion.

Do not focus on what the music means. Enjoy it for the of Music alone. Sit back, relax and prepare for a strange, otherworldly voyage.

Dopo i concerti di giugno il Collettivo Neaphonis ritorna sulla scena in una fantastatica location istituzionale: la Cappella Pappagoda dell'Istituto Orientale di Napoli. Nonostante la guerra che la politica nazionale e locale sta facendo alla cultura noi andiamo avanti lo stesso! Come nello scorso concerto viene riproposto un reperterio minimalista ma con una differenza: questa volta sarà possibile ascoltare l'esecuzione di Electric Counterpoint (1967) di Reich. Il collettivo Neaphonis è un ensemble di interpreti/compositori/performer napoletani che ha deciso di unire le forze per creare ulteriori occasioni di pratica e di ascolto della musica contemporanea. Neaphonis si caratterizza per la proposta di programmi monografici, per la ricerca sugli autori e per il rifiuto del "recital" motivato dalla volontà di porre l'accento sulla musica in quanto risultato di un processo di creazione ancorato alle condizioni storiche in cui si sviluppa la prassi compositiva.

International ensemble/collective o.e.s. (orchestra eclettica e sincretista) brings a multitude of interpretations to a composition by the eccentric avant-garde composer, Moondog.

“Moondogging” is the hommage that o.e.s. pays to the legendary figure of Moondog. o.e.s. worked on a song of his titled “Lovesong” that has a twin in an instrumental track titled “Fujiyama”. The song sings a story that is similar to the one of Tristan and Iseult or of Romeo and Juliet. a very tragic love story.

Some members of the o.e.s. collective contributes instrumental and vocal executions of the song or samples and some members contributes complete compositions or remixes of these materials.

while trying to finish the Moondog work (Moondogging) i would like to share two new projects to you

the first one is an upgrade of a kind of obsession of mine.the perfect curtain. mean the perfect track to end (but then soon will come the one concerning the perfect track to start) an album

the perfect track that ends an album must not be conclusive at all to me. it must have an ending touch, feel and taste, but it must lead to something that goes on. it must open, it must not close. do you agree?

in an earlier post i linked to some examples of the mood i tried to describe: here http://www.musichevirtuali.org/music/oes/index.html in my box you can find them again.

but here i'm proposing to send me original ones, not covers. if you like the project you have to produce a track (and name it) that ends a possible, virtual album (and name it).

if you want you can also add words or images or whatever else.

the second project is a cover one. i would like to cover "Thursday Afternoon" by Brian Eno.

you must replay the tracks phrases with electronic or acoustic instruments. i would like to compile a three side work. one only acoustic, one only electronic. one a mix of twos.

Scritta a poco più di due anni dalla sua scomparsa, un anno prima di 1984.

Caro Mr. Usborne, grazie della sua lettera del 22 agosto. Cercherò di risponderle come meglio posso.

Sono nato nel 1903 e ho studiato a Eton dove ottenni una borsa di studio. Mio padre era un funzionario dell'Amministrazione statale indiana e anche mia madre proveniva da una famiglia anglo-indiana, con legami soprattutto in Birmania.

Dopo aver completato la scuola ho lavorato per cinque anni per la Imperial Police in Birmania, ma il lavoro non si confaceva per nulla alle mie capacità: così ho dato le dimissioni quando sono venuto a casa in licenza, nel 1927.

Volevo diventare uno scrittore, e ho vissuto la maggior parte dei due anni successivi a Parigi, mantenendomi con i miei risparmi, scrivendo romanzi che nessuno avrebbe pubblicato e che successivamente ho distrutto. Quando ho finito i soldi, ho lavorato per un po' come lavapiatti, poi sono tornato in Inghilterra dove ho fatto una serie di lavori mal pagati, come quello di insegnante, con intervalli di disoccupazione e povertà disperata... (Era il periodo della depressione).

Quasi tutte le vicende descritte in Senza un soldo a Parigi e Londra sono accadute realmente ma in momenti diversi, e io le ho intrecciate per creare una storia che funzionasse.

Ho lavorato in una libreria per circa un anno nel 1934-1935, ma ho deciso di raccontarlo soltanto in Fiorirà l'aspidistra per creare uno sfondo. Non mi sembra che il libro sia autobiografico: io non ho mai lavorato in un ufficio di pubblicità. In generale i miei libri hanno un contenuto meno autobiografico di quanto per lo più si creda. Vi sono parti di autentica autobiografia in Wigan Pier e, naturalmente, in Omaggio alla Catalogna, che è un resoconto diretto. Incidentalmente Fiorirà è uno dei molti libri che non m'interessano e ho soppresso.

Riguardo alla politica, me ne sono interessato soltanto saltuariamente fino al 1935, sebbene io creda di poter dire di essere sempre stato più o meno "a sinistra". In Wigan Pier ho tentato per la prima volta di chiarire le mie idee. Ho pensato, e lo penso ancora, che ci siano enormi mancanze nell'intera concezione del Socialismo e mi sono spesso chiesto se non esiste nessun'altra via d'uscita. Dopo aver studiato abbastanza bene l'industria britannica nella sua versione peggiore, cioè le miniere, ho concluso che è un dovere lavorare per il Socialismo anche se non si è emotivamente attratti da esso, perchè la perpetuazione delle condizioni attuali è semplicemente intollerabile, e non esiste una soluzione politicamente realizzabile tranne qualche forma di collettivismo, perchè è questo ciò che la massa della popolazione vuole.

Ma, più o meno nella stessa epoca sono stato infettato dall'orrore del totalitarismo, che in realtà avevo già sperimentato in quelle che chiamerei "forma di ostilità per la Chiesa Cattolica".

Ho combattuto in Spagna per sei mesi (1936-37), e ho avuto la sfortuna di essere coinvolto nelle lotte intestine alle stesse fazioni: questo mi ha dato la certezza che non c'è molto da scegliere tra Comunismo e Fascismo, sebbene per varie ragioni scegierei il Comunismo, se non avessi alternative. Sono stato vagamente associato con i trotskysti e gli anarchici, e più da vicino con l'ala sinistra del Partito Laburista (la propaggine Bevan-Foot).

Sono stato direttore letterario di Tribune, allora il giornale di Bevan, per circa un anno e mezzo (1943-45), e ho scritto per lo stesso per un periodo di tempo più lungo. Ma non sono mai stato iscritto a un partito politico, e credo di valere molto di più, anche politicamente, se scrivo quello che ritengo vero, rifiutando di seguire una linea imposta dall'alto.

All'inizio dell'anno scorso ho deciso di prendere una vacanza, dato che avevo continuato a scrivere quattro articoli alla settimana per due anni. Trascorsi sei mesi a Jura, un periodo in cui non ho lavorato, sono poi tornato a Londra facendo, come al solito durante l'inverno, il giornalista. Quindi sono rientrato a Jura: ho cominciato a scrivere un romanzo che spero di finire entro la primavera del 1948.

Cerco di non fare nient'altro mentre continuo a lavorare a questo mio nuovo progetto. Molto raramente scrivo recensioni di libri per il New Yorker. Intendo trascorrere l'inverno a Jura, un pò perchè a Londra mi sembra di non riuscire mai a concludere nulla, un pò perchè credo sia più facile qui. Il clima non è così freddo, ed è più semplice avere cibo e carburante. Qui ho una casa molto comoda anche se in un luogo sperduto. Mia sorella fa funzionare la casa per me. Sono vedovo con un bambino cha ha poco più di tre anni.

Spero che queste mie note le saranno d'aiuto. Mi rincresce di non poter scrivere nulla per lo Strand per il momento, perchè, come ho detto, sto cercando di non essere distratto da altro.

Ma il sensofondamentale del Sì dionisiaco ha potuto essere chiarito soltanto a partire dal quarto tema del nostro colloquio, a livello dell'ETERNO RITORNO. Anche qui si affollano molte domande. Innanzi tutto come spiegare che l'eterno ritorno è l'idea più antica, che ha radici presocratiche, ma anche l'innovazione prodigiosa che Nietzsche presenta come la propria scoperta? E come spiegare che c'è qualcosa di nuovo nell'idea che non c'è niente di nuovo?

L'eterno ritorno non è certamente negazione del tempo, soppressione del tempo, eternità atemporale. Ma come spiegare che è allo stesso tempo ciclo e istante: da una parte continuazione, dall'altra iterazione? Da una parte continuità di un processo di un divenire che è Mondo, dall'altra ripresa, lampo, veduta mistica su questo divenire o su questo processo? Da una parte ri-cominciamento continuo di ciò che è stato, dall'altra ritorno istantaneo ad una sorta di fuoco, a un punto "zero" della volontà? E ancora, come spiegare che l'eterno ritorno è il pensiero più desolante, quello che suscita il "Grande Disgusto", ma anche il più consolante, il grande pensiero della convalescenza, che produce il superuomo? Tutti questi problemi sono stati constantemente presenti nelle discussioni; e a poco a poco sono state elaborate delle delle sfaldature, dei piani di distinzione.

Che l'eterno ritorno per gli antichi non abbia la semplicità nè il dogmatismo che a volte gli viene attribuito, che
non sia affatto una costante dell'anima arcaica, è la nostra prima certezza. E proprio qui si è ricordato che
l'eterno ritorno per gli antichi non è mai stato puro, bensì mescolato ad altre tematiche, come quella della
trasmigrazione; che non è mai stato pensato in maniera uniforme, ma è stato concepito in modi molto diversi, a seconda delle civiltà e delle scuole di pensiero; che il ritorno forse non era totale nè eterno, ma consisteva
piuttosto in cicli parziali incommensurabili[...]

[...] E se Nietzsche ritiene che la sua idea sia assolutamente nuova, non è certo perchè non conosce gli antichi. Sa bene che ciò che chiama eterno ritorno ci introduce in una dimensione non ancora esplorata.[...]

[...] In breve, il mondo dell'eterno ritorno è un mondo in intensità, un mondo di differenze, che non presuppone nè l'Uno nè lo stesso, ma che si costruisce sulla tomba di Dio unico, come sulle rovine dell'Io identico. L'eterno ritorno stesso è la sola unità di questo mondo che ne possiede una solo "ritornando", la sola identità di un mondo che ha lo "stesso" soltanto mediante la ripetizione.
Nei testi pubblicati da Nietzsche, l'eterno ritorno non è l'oggetto di un'esposizione formale e definitiva. E'
soltanto annunciato, presentito, come orrore o con estasi. E se consideriamo i due testi principali di Zarathustra in cui se ne parla, LA VISIONE E L'ENIGMA e IL CONVALESCENTE, vediamo che l'annuncio, il presentimento avviene sempre in condizioni drammatiche, senza però dire nulla del contenuto profondo di questo "pensiero supremo". In un caso, infatti, Zarathustra lancia una sfida al Nano, al Buffone - la propria caricatura. Ma ciò che dice dell'eterno ritorno è già sufficiente a farlo star male e a far nascere in lui l'insopportabile visione del pastore dalla cui bocca fuoriesce un serpente srotolato, come se l'eterno ritorno si sciogliesse via via che Zarathustra ne parla. Nel secondo testo l'eterno ritorno è l'oggetto di un discorso pronunciato dagli animali, l'aquila e il serpente, non da Zarathustra stesso; e questa volta il discorso è sufficiente a far addormentare Zarathustra convalescente. Egli ha comunque avuto il tempo di dire loro: "Voi ne avete già ricavato una canzone d'organetto". Avete fatto dell'eterno ritorno una "canzone d'organetto", cioè una ripetizione meccanica o naturale, quando invece è tutt'altra cosa...
(anche nel primo testo, al Nano che gli dice: "Ogni verità è ricurva, il tempo stesso è un circolo", Zarathustra aveva risposto: "Tu, spirito di gravità (...) non prendere la cosa troppo alla leggera!")
Abbiamo il diritto di credere che Nietzsche, nelle sue opere pubblicate, abbia soltanto preparato la rivelazione dell'eterno ritorno, ma non abbia fatto, e non abbia avuto il tempo di fare questa rivelazione stessa. Tutto indica che l'opera che aveva progettato, alla vigilia della crisi del 1888, si sarebbe spinta molto più lontano in questa direzione. Ma già i testi di Zarathustra, da una parte, e alcuni appunti del 1881-82, dall'altra, ci dicono almeno ciò che l'eterno ritorno non è secondo Nietzsche. Non è un ciclo. Non presuppone l'Uno, il Medesimo, l'Uguale o l'equilibrio. Non è un ritorno del Tutto. Non è un ritorno del Medesimo, nè un ritorno al Medesimo. Non ha nulla in comune, dunque, con il pensiero che si suppone antico, con il pensiero di un ciclo che fa ritornare Tutto, che ripassa da una condizione d'equilibrio, che riconduce il Tutto all'Uno, e ritorna allo Stesso. Questa sarebbe la "canzone d'organetto" o la "semplificazione": l'eterno ritorno come come trasformazione fisica o movimento astronomico - l'eterno ritorno vissuto come certezza naturale animale (l'eterno ritorno così come lo vedono il buffone o gli
animali di Zarathustra). Conosciamo bene la critica che, in tutta la sua opera, Nietzsche rivolge alle nozioni
generali di Uno, Stesso, Uguale e Tutto. Più precisamente, gli appunti del 1881-1882 si oppongono esplecitamente all'ipotesi ciclica; escludono ogni supposizione di uno stato d'equilibrio. Proclamano che non ritorna Tutto, poichè l'eterno ritorno è essenzialmente SELETTIVO, selettivo per eccellenza. Ancora di più: che cos'è successo tra i due movimenti di Zarathustra, Zarathustra malato e Zarathustra convalescente? Perchè l'eterno ritorno gli ispirava all'inizio un disgusto e una paura insopportabili che scompaiono quando guarisce? Bisogna credere che Zarathustra accetti di sopportare ciò che fino a poco prima gli riusciva insopportabile? Evidentemente no, il cambiamento non è semplicemente psicologico. Si tratta di una progressione "drammatica" nella comprensione dell'eterno ritorno stesso.

Ciò che aveva fatto ammalare Zarathustra era l'idea che l'eterno ritorno fosse comunque, malgrado tutto, legato a un ciclo; e che avrebbe fatto ritornare tutto; che tutto sarebbe ritornato, anche l'uomo, il "piccolo uomo"...
"Il grande disgusto dell'uomo - ciò che mi soffocava e mi era strisciato dentro le fauci:
e ciò che l'indovino aveva profetizzato: "TUTTO E' UGUALE" (...) E l'eterno ritorno anche
del più piccolo! - Questo era il mio disgusto per l'intera esistenza!"

Se Zatathustra guarisce è perchè comprende che l'eterno ritorno non è questo. Alla fine comprende l'ineguale, la selezione nell'eterno ritorno.
Infatti, l'ineguale, il differente è la vera ragione dell'eterno ritorno. E proprio perchè niente è uguale, nemmeno
lo stesso, che "questo" ritorna. In altri termini, l'eterno ritorno si dice soltanto del divenire, del molteplice.
E' la legge di un mondo senza essere, senza unità, senza identità- Lungi dal PRESUPPORRE l'Uno o il Medesimo, esso costituisce la sola unità del molteplice in quanto tale, la sola identità di ciò che differisce: ritornare è il solo "essere" del divenire.(...)

(...) L'eterno ritorno è innanzi tutto selettivo nel pensiero, perchè elimina le "mezze volontà". Regola che vale al di là del bene e del male. L'eterno ritorno ci dà una parodia della regola kantiana. Qualsiasi cosa tu voglia, devi volerla in modo da volerne anche l'eterno ritorno... Ciò che viene meno dunque, ciò che si annulla, è tutto ciò che sento, faccio o voglio, a condizione di dire "una volta, soltanto una volta". Una pigrizia che volesse il suo eterno ritorno e smettesse di dire: domani lavorerò - una viltà o un'abiezione che volesse il suo eterno ritorno: è chiaro che ci troveremmo di fronte a forme non ancora conosciute, non ancora esplorate. Non sarebbe più ciò che abitualmente chiamiamo pigrizia o viltà. E il fatto che non ne abbiamo nemmeno idea, significa soltanto che le forme estreme non PREESISTINO alla prova dell'eterno ritorno. Perchè l'eterno ritorno è la categoria della prova.
E ciò che si deve intendere in riferimento agli eventi stessi, o a tutto ciò che succede. Un'infelicità, una
malattia, una follia, persino l'approssimarsi della morte hanno due aspetti: uno con cui esse mi separano dalla mia potenza, l'altro con cui mi dotano di una strana potenza, come di un pericoloso mezzo d'esplorazione, che è anche un terribile ambito da esplorare. In tutte le cose, la funzione dell'eterno ritorno è quella di separare le forme superiori da quelle medie, le zoni torride o glaciali da quelle temperate, le potenze estreme dagli stadi moderati.

Giungiamo così al terzo tema del colloquio, che è ritornato spesso nella discussione e che riguarda i rapporti tra affermazione e negazione in Nietzsche, Loewith, in una magistrale rekazione che ha caratterizzato tutto il colloquio,ha analizzato la natura del NICHILISMO, facendo vedere come il suo superamento comporti, in Nietzsche, un autentico recupero del mondo, una nuova alleanza, un'affermazione della terra e del corpo. Loewith ha riassunto tutta la sua interpretazione di Nietzsche, in questa idea "del recupero del mondo". Si è rifatto, in particolare, a un passo della"Gaia Scienza": "O cancellate le vostre venerazioni oppure - voi stessi!".
E tutti noi siamo restati impressionati ascoltando Gabriel Marcel richiamare di nuovo questo passo per precisare la sua posizione rispetto al nichilismo, a Nietzsche, e a eventuali discepoli di Nietzsche.
Il rispettivo ruolo del No e del Sì, della negazione e dell'affermazione in Nietzsche, pone infatti vari problemi.
Wahl ha valutato e mostrato che il Sì e il No hanno molteplici significati, e che non riescono a coesistere senza tensioni, senza contraddizioni vissute, pensate e anche impensabili. E mai come qui Wahl ha saputo moltiplicare le questioni e maneggiare un metodo di prospettive che deve a Nietzsche, e che egli ha saputo rinnovare.
Prendiamo un esempio. Di sicuro l'Asino di Zarathustra è un animale che dice Sì, I-A, I-A. Ma il suo Sì è quello di Zarathustra. Quando l'Asino dice Sì, quando afferma o crede di affermare, non fa altro che portare. Crede che affermare sia portare; calcola il valore delle sue affermazioni a seconda del peso di ciò che porta. Gueroult ce l'ha ricordato fin dall'inizio del colloquio: l'Asino (o il cammello) porta innanzi tutto IL PESO DEI VALORI CRISTIANI; POI, QUANDO DIO E' MORTO, IL PESO DEI VALORI UMANISTICI, UMANI - TROPPO UMANI; infine il peso del reale, quando non c'è più nessun'altro valore. Sono qui riconoscibili i tre stadi del nichilismo nietzschiano: quello di Dio, quello dell'uomo, quello dell'ultimo degli uomini - il peso che ci viene messo sulle spalle, il peso che noi stessi ci mettiamo sulle
spalle, infine il peso dei nostri muscoli affaticati quando non abbiamo più nulla da portare.
C'è dunque un No dell'asino, perchè ciò a cui dice "sì" sono tutti i prodotti del nichilismo mentre ne percorre tutti gli stadi. Ma l'affermazione in questo caso non è che un fantasma di affermazione. IL NEGATIVO E' LA SOLA REALTA'.
Completamente diverso è il Sì di Zarathustra. Zarathustra sa che affermare non significa portare- Zarathustra sa che contrario affermare significa alleggerire, sgravare ciò che vive, danzare, creare. Questo è il motivo per cui in lui l'affermazione è primaria, la negazione non è mai altro che una conseguenza al servizio dell'affermazione, come un sovrappiù al godimento, Nietzsche-Zarathustra oppone le sue piccole orecchie rotonde e labirintiche alle lunghe puntute orecchie dell'asino: il Sì di Zarathustra è l'affermazione del danzatore, il Sì dell'asino è quello del portatore; il No di Zarathustra è quello dell'aggressività, il No dell'asino è quello del risentimento. Ritroviamo qui i caratteri essenziali di una tipologia e anche di una topologia nel movimento di Zarathustra che va dall'alto in basso,e poi nel movimento dell'asino che rovescia la profondità e inverte il Sì e il No.

LC009 - Ilhan Mimaroglu - Missing Pieces (free mp3 download)

Ilhan Mimaroglu is one of the composers who produced wonderful stuff in the golden era of electronic music, and then at a certain point got carried away by other projects. It's a sad statement to make but nevertheless in my opinion true. Maybe that's why his music, at least important parts of it, have gone lost. Present here are compositions that have been released through the US label Turnabout (at least that's what I think) in the late 60's. Turnabout has vanished and these compositions have never been rereleased.

Mimaroglu really is a versatile composer. He composed electronic music, remixed music of Jazz musician Freddy Hubbard, composed the soundtrack to Fellini's Satyricon. He also has a great sense of humor which is proven by titles like

Mimaroglu about himself: Time has told in first person singular that I was born March 11, 1926, in Istanbul, turkey; son of the eminent architect, Kemalletin, whom I have never known as he died when I was barely a year old. He had wanted me to grow up with music. There was a phonograph in our house and a number of classical records. Those were my only toys.

I was also hearing music that the environment was offering me, music that I regarded rather anodine and began to say to myself that there ought to be more to music than all that. Indeed there was. First jazz revealed itself to me, then contemporary art music. My mother wanted me to go to the conservatory. I declined. They would teach me the wrong things there I didn't know enough about music yet to tell what's wrong and what's not. Instead, law school. I couldn't have cared less about law anyway. But I learned one important thing there, that I should obey only laws I could have made myself. Then came the time for music education as I knew enough about music to avoid the pitfalls. One learns best what ones already knows.
The first products of electronic music and/or musique concrete reached me in the early fifties. By that time I had established a reputation in Turkey as a writer and broadcaster on music. The Rockefeller Foundation heard about me and had me visit New York for a program of studies at Columbia University (primarily in musicology under Paul Henry Lang and composition under Douglas Moore).
A few years later I returned to New York to establish residence and further my studies at Columbia with a program centered around electronic music as in the course of my first visit I had come into closer contact with the work in electronic music (tape music) conducted at Columbia University by Otto Luening and Vladimir Ussachevsky.
For many years I worked in the studios of the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Center. My primary mentor was Ussachevsky. I also had the occasion to work with Edgard Varese and Stefan Wolpe, among others. In the early 1970's I was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in music compositions.
In addition to my electronic and instrumental/vocal compositions, I wrote a number of books (on history of music, jazz, electronic music, plus a set of diaries, all published in Turkey).
Even if I hadn't done anything else, having written (and published) my "Project Utopia" pamphlet, I would have regarded my existence justified.

Parte ad aprile 2010 il tour promozionale in occasione dell'uscita del quarto album Piano Car dell’artista Stefano Ianne - compositore minimalista inquinato da pathos romantico - che vede la partecipazione di artisti di fama internazionale quali Trilok Gurtu, Ricky Portera, Nick Beggs (Kajagoogoo), Terl Bryant, Arké Quartet, Mario Marzi, John DeLeo, Gennaro Cosmo Parlato con l’immancabile e straordinaria direzione orchestrale di Valter Sivilotti. Il tour vede l'artista esibirsi accompagnato da una formazione sperimentale composta da piano e tastiere, un quartetto d'archi, un basso elettrico e un percussionista.

Una seconda formazione, in tour dal 2010, vede la partecipazione, oltre a Ianne al pianoforte, di un’orchestra di 20 elementi sotto la direzione del M° Sivilotti.

Il tour è accompagnato e sostenuto dai ragazzi e le ragazze di YOUNICEF, il movimento dei giovani sostenitori italiani dell'UNICEF, con l'idea di aggregare nuovi giovani volontari in questo viaggio musicale.

STEFANO IANNE – piano e composizione

Nel novembre 2006 ha dato vita all’opera Variabili Armoniche, album registrato in studio con un ensemble ad hoc di 30 elementi orchestrali e con la partecipazione di Valter Sivilotti in qualità di elaboratore orchestrale e di Simone d'Eusanio.

Da questo primo album il brano Aurore è stato scelto come colonna sonora dello spot dell’ “Acqua Panna” in onda dal 1°giugno 2008.

Nell’aprile 2008 esce l’opera Elephant, registrata live al Teatro Dal Verme di Milano con l’orchestra de I Pomeriggi Musicali e con la partecipazione di Rolf Hind (John Adams, London Sinfonietta).

Il concerto è stato dedicato alla lotta che l’Unicef sta portando avanti per ridurre la mortalità dei bambini a causa dell’aids. È presente nell’album una traccia video d’animazione della storia di ”Elephant”, ambientata a Parigi ai primi del Novecento. Il video è dedicato al Coe Cameroun.

Sempre nel 2008 i brani “Flying” e “Concerto per violino quarto” sono la colonna sonora di Beket, film del regista surrealista Davide Manuli, in concorso al Festival di Locarno. Detti brani fanno parte della terza opera di Ianne dal titolo Mondovisioni uscito nel 2009 e che vede la partecipazione di Antonella Ruggiero.

Da gennaio 2009 è un artista Rai Trade.

Stefano Ianne è anche l’editore e ideatore, insieme a Roberto "Freak" Antoni, del fumetto bimestrale “Freak”, ispirato alla vita del leader e vocalist del gruppo rock demenziale Skiantos.

[...] Ecco che la nozione di valore permette in qualche modo di "soffocare" la verità, di scoprire dietro il vero e il falso un'istanza più profonda. Questa nozione di valore indica ancora l'appartenenza di Nietzsche a un fondo metafisico platonico-cartesiano, o invece dà avvio a una nuova filosofia, e anche a una nuova ontologia? E' il problema che ha posto Beaufret. Ed è stato il secondo tema del nostro colloquio. Possiamo, infatti, chiederci: se tutto è maschera se tutto è interpretazione e valutazione, che cosa c'è in ultima istanza, dato che non esistono nè cosa da interpretare

o da valutare, né cose da mascherare? In ultima istanza, non c'è niente, salvo la volontà di potenza, che è potenza di metamorfosi, potenza di modellare le maschere, potenza di interpretare e di valutare.

Vattimo ci ha indicato una via, affermando che i due aspetti principali della filosofia di Nietzsche, la critica di tutti i valori avvallati e la creazione di valori nuovi, la demistificazione e la trasvalutazione, non possono essere compresi e ricadono semplicemente nella condizione di proposizioni della coscienza se non vengono rapportati a una profondità originaria, ontologica - "caverna dietro a tutte le caverne", "abisso sotto ogni fondo". Questa profondità originaria, la famosa profondità-altezza di Zarathustra, bisogna chiamarla allora volontà di potenza.

E Biraukt ha precisato in che modo bisogna intendere la "volontà di potenza". Non si tratta di un voler-vivere, perchè ciò che è vita come potrebbe voler vivere? Non si tratta di un desiderio di dominare, perchè ciò che è dominante potrebbe desiderare di dominare? Zarathustra dice "Desiderio di dominare, ma chi potrebbe chiamarlo desiderio?". LA VOLONTA DI POTENZA, DUNQUE, NON E' UNA VOLONTA' CHE VUOLE LA POTENZA O CHE DESIDERA DOMINARE.
Una tale interpretazione, infatti, avrebbe due inconvenienti. Se la volontà di potenza significasse "volere la potenza", essa dipenderebbe evidentemente da valori stabiliti, onori, denaro, potere sociale, poichè questi valori determinano l'attribuzione e il riconoscimento della potenza come oggetto di desiderio e di volontà. E questa potenza che la volontà vorrebbe, la otterrebbe soltanto impegnandosi in una lotta o in combattimento. Inoltre chiediamoci: CHI vuole la potenza, in questo modo? CHI desidera dominare? PROPRIO COLORO CHE NIETZSCHE CHIAMA GLI SCHIAVI, I DEBOLI.
Volere la potenza è l'immagine che gli IMPOTENTI si fanno della volontà di potenza. Nietzsche ha sempre visto nella lotta, nel combattimento, un mezzo di selezione, che però funzionava all'incontrario e tornava a vantaggio degli schiavi e del gregge. Tra le più grandi sentenze di Nietzsche, si legge "Si devono sempre difendere i forti come i deboli". Senza dubbio, nel desiderio di dominare, nell'imagine che gli impotenti hanno della volontà di potenza, ritroviamo comunque una volontà di potenza, ma al suo grado più basso. La volontà di potenza al suo grado più alto, nella sua forma intensa e intensiva, non consiste nel bramare e nemmeno nel prendere, MA NEL DARE E NEL CREARE. Il suo vero nome, dice Zarathustra è la virtù che dona. E il fatto che la maschera sia il dono più bello è testimonianza della volontà di potenza come forza plastica, COME LA PIU' ALTA POTENZA DELL'ARTE. La potenza non è ciò che la volontà vuole, ma ciò che vuole nella volontà, vale a dire DIONISO.

Ecco perchè nel prospettivismo di Nietzsche tutto cambia, come ha detto Birault, a seconda che si guardino le cose dall'alto in basso o dal basso in alto. Dall'alto in basso, infatti, la volontà di potenza è affermazione, affermazione della differenza, gioco, piacere e dono, creazione della distanza. Ma dal basso in alto, tutto si capovolge, l'affermazione si riflette in negazione, la differenza in opposizione; solo le cose che stanno in basso hanno immediato bisigno di opporsi a ciò che è diverso da esse. E su questo punto Birault e Foucault concordano. Foucault infatti ha mostrato come tutti i movimenti buoni, in Nietzsche si realizzano dall'alto in basso, a cominciare dal movimento dell'interpretazione. Tutto ciò che è buono, tutto ciò che è nobile, partecipa del volo dell'aquila: strapiombo e discesa. E i bassofondi sono interpretati bene solo quando vengono ispezionati, cioè attraversati, rivoltati e ripresi da un movimento che viene dall'alto.
